Located in the heart of Asakusa, Gyutan no Lemon stands out in Tokyo's vibrant yakiniku scene, specializing in grilled beef tongue, or "gyutan". Diners rave about the unique textures and flavor profiles, particularly highlighting the kiwami thick cut, renowned for its bouncy and springy mouthfeel. Guests describe this cut as a firm yet tender experience, akin to a 'trampoline' for the palate, perfectly cooked to a red medium rare. While the atsugiri cut may not have garnered as much enthusiasm—cited as being colder and lacking in flavor compared to competitors—it still carries the promise of grilled aroma that evolves with each bite.
The accompanying lemon soda has received praise for its refreshing taste, and the beef tongue curry—thick, earthy, and mildly spicy—enhances the overall dining experience. Other notable highlights include quick service and a cozy atmosphere, though some reviewers suggested a reservation due to its growing popularity. Overall, Gyutan no Lemon is a must-visit for enthusiasts craving an authentic taste of beef tongue cuisine, complemented by a unique touch of lemon.

This is the send time to visit the restaurant. The grilled beef tongue are very tasty. The squeeze lemon soda and juice is worth to try
the textures and flavours achieved by gyutan no lemon is quintessential beef tongue specialized cuisine. although the price point is higher than places like negishi, i think that the uniqueness and deliciousness of the food here makes this place worth trying. what stood out the mOst to me was the kiwami thick cut beef tongue — it is probably the bounciest and springiest piece of meat i’ve ever had. the inside, cooked to a red medium rare, was perfectly tender and chewy. biting into it was like biting into a firm cube of jelly or trampoline (i am struggling to describe the incredible QQness of the mouthfeel). however, the outside/skin was kind of tough and hard to chew off, but it was seasoned nicely with salt. even though the kiwami cut just looks like a hunk of raw meat, it’s got lots of flavour, yet still remains delicate in its taste. the thinner atsugiri cut wasn’t as delicious though, as it was colder, the texture was subpar, and there wasn’t much flavour — i think negishi does the thinner cuts better. although, i do think that the more you chewed, the more you could taste the grill aroma. i liked pairing this with the salty, tangy, and slight sweet miso paste on the side for a nice punch of flavour. i believe the ultimate satisfaction in any japanese meal is pairing whatever protein, topping, or main dish you have with a STEAMING bowl of rice. at beef tongue restaurants like this, this heavenly experience is made even better by the cold, silky, and slight sweet grated yam. this place also includes a side of beef tongue curry (with actual small chunks of bouncy beef tongue in it!) to pair with your rice. the curry is like your typical japanese curry, which is thick, a little bit spicy, earthy, and savoury (from curry powder). the peppery beef tongue soup that came with it had a lot more depth and flavour than the one at negishi, and i liked how tender the meat inside was. we arrived at 4:55 pm and got seated almost immediately, and the food came on sUPER FAST like almost immediately after ordering. although, i think service was a bit rushed and didn’t give me the friendliest vibes.
Got there early, found seat. But would recommend reservations for late evening. Great beef tongue. Must try their lemon soda. 13360 yen for three
Second time trying this, with the first experience in Osaka. The Gyutan was exceptional, and both times were great. I would recommend the thick cut prime Gyutan as that is the best. The Ikura rice is also fantastic, so definitely opt for that. Definitely make a reservation in advance
This is the best beef tongue I have ever had! The price is very reasonable for the quality too. It was not very busy when I went but I expect it to get busy as more people learn of this place. The tongue was very well seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked perfectly. This restaurant is a must visit for me when I’m in Japan.
Really good food! The set menu includes curry and soup both with beef tongue as well. The tongue was cooked really well and overall we were very happy with our meal. You can also upgrade your rice to rice topped with ikura (salmon roe) and egg yolk which I would say pairs really well with the beef tongue. Also, ask for salt on the side because just the tongue and salt is already a great pairing.
Gyutan is the best beef tongue I would say. The staff there is nice. This shop have better environments and lesser people than the shop at Shinjuku or Osaka. The food is great but not as good as the shop at Shinjuku or Osaka.
Amazing food and service. We came to this spot twice during our trip. We tried every type of meat they had to offer and they all came out great. We were also impressed with the service, especially the girl (think she was the leader/manager), extremely high energy and nice. Example is we were waiting in line and the group in front of had 6 people. There wasn’t enough room, cause it was really busy, so she asked them if she could split them up 4-2. The lady responded “okay” but you could tell from her facial expression she wasn’t too happy. When we got in we noticed she was able to rearrange things to have them all sit together.
